Home Style & Beauty My Top 5 Red Lipstick Picks for Women of Color

Oh beloved red lipstick. Such a powerful statement can be made from the application of this bold hue. It has been the signature lip color of some of the worlds most profound songstresses and starlets because of the what it represents. It is no exaggeration that having the lady-balls to rock this color says a lot about the woman behind the lipstick.

I wrote an article on xoNecole  a while back showing ways to choose the perfect red lipstick for different skin undertones but I wanted you all to know my personal favorite shades of red lipstick.

Let’s take a look, shall we?

Kiko Cosmetics, “Intensive Red”. This lipstick is a liquid satin and strays towards the warmer side of the spectrum. The color stays on pretty well and stays comfortably on the lips throughout the day.

NYX Liquid Suede, “Kitten Heels Hate the name, love the lipstick. This red lipstick drys to a velvety matte finish. This is a true red (not too warm or too cool). While it is one of the newer ones in my collection, it’s starting to become one of my favorites.

MAC, “MAC RedIf I’m not mistaking, this is one of, if not the first red lipstick that I’ve ever bought. This is a red lipstick with a cool/blue undertone which works for someone who has a cool undertone to their skin. BUT cool reds do make your teeth look whiter.

Clinique, “Matte Crimson This formula is great because for a matte lipstick it is super creamy. You can’t beat it!

MAC, "Russian Red" red lipstick

MAC, “Russian Red This red lipstick is actually a very versatile one and could work for cool, neutral or warm undertones. Usually I just apply it with precision but in this image I did use a bit of a brown liner with it.

I firmly believe that every woman should have a classic red lipstick stashed somewhere on their vanity. It’ll never go out of style!

What is your go-to red lipstick? I’m always in the market of trying a new one. Drop shades below!
