Stacey Dash has molded herself into one of those black “non-black” celebrities that always find themselves under hot water when it comes to voicing her opinion about the black community. And well folks, she is at it again.
On the tail of the #OscarSoWHite discussion that has been all over social media for the past few days, Stacey Dash took to Fox 5 News “Fox & Friends” to voice her oh so controversial opinion about the Oscars all white nominations.
Stacey Dash: “I think it’s ludicrous…because we have to make up our minds. Either we want segregation or intregration. And if we don’t want segregration then we need to get rid of channels like BET… and the BET awards…and the image awards…where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard.
Scott Doocy: “So your saying there shouldn’t be a BET channel?”
Stacey Dash: “No, no I don’t think so… no. Just like there shouldn’t be a black history month. You know. We’re American’s, period that’s it.”
Scott Doocy: “Are you saying that there shouldn’t be a black history month because there isn’t a white history month?”
Stacey Dash: “Exactly, exactly.”
That is the part of the interview that has black twitter up in flames. BET specifically took to twitter to clapback at Stacey’s comments that the network shouldn’t exist:
If you watch the full interview, Dash was very quick to discredit black media outlets for showcasing black talent but was very hesitant to state an opinion on the members Academy that chooses Oscar nominations being compromised mainly of white males. Interesting.
Stacey Stacey Stacey. Ms. Dash. I think that your idea of segregation is definitely misconstrued. Black networks and tv programming were not made to separate us from whites but rather to highlight black talent that would otherwise not be exposed on a day to day basis. I get that you’re speaking for ,I guess, equality on the basis of us all being “American’s” but be realistic. We live in a country that was not truly built on equality of race. My 7 year old nephew could probably tell you that. Though we have come a long way, we just haven’t gotten to that place yet. Showcasing black talent on black networks where white american’s can come peak in ever so often has opened up doors if anything. What happens within the black community somehow is always an trending topic, even outside of Twitter.
In regards to not having a black history month because there’s no white history month…we’re all American’s, I’ll just say this. There is NO need to have a white history month because
. Hence, that month long celebration.
If Hollywood was equal opportunity then maybe Stacey Dash would have a valid point. But we all know that it isn’t. I guess Stacey didn’t get that message while being one, if not the only, black actress on Clueless amongst a number of white actors & actresses. Unless of course she thought she was playing a white high school student also? Maybe, just maybe. Side note: Does it surprise you that Stacey Dash is allegedly the infamous Damon Dash’s cousin? Probably not.
I’m like 100% positive that Stacey Dash will be getting the Donkey of The Day on The Power 105.1 Breakfast Club morning show tomorrow. Come through Charlamagne!!! Oh, & Happy Birthday Stacey!
Did Stacey have a valid argument? Or do you also think she needs to have to take a seat and quit while she’s ahead?
